Dion Fortune (1890-1946) was a British occultist, ceremonial magician, and writer who cofounded the Fraternity of the Inner Light, an occult organization that promoted philosophies revealed to her by spiritual entities known as the Ascended Masters. The author of seven novels, four of them occult and fantasy themed, she saw her novels as a way to initiate readers into the realms of the occult by speaking to their subconscious minds. Considered a proto-Pagan by Wiccan scholars, her works anticipated feminist ideas, particularly through her belief that all goddesses were manifestations of a single Great Goddess. While not involved in the feminist movement, she thought she was as powerful, capable, independent, and discerning as any man and worked to spiritually empower women.
