Émile Antoine Verpilleux (1888–1964) was born March 3, 1888 in Notting Hill, London, England, son of Émile Antoine Verpilleux and Edith Beard. After attending school, he illustrated various magazines, eventually earning enough to pursue woodcutting. He served in the Royal Air Force in World War I, and was named as a member of the Order of the British Empire in 1919.
On September 10, 1964, he passed away.
