Born in Palo Alto, California, Joe Ficklin was abandoned by his parents at birth and then raised by engineers in the wild. He has spent a lifetime gathering experiences as writing fodder. He’s sailed on both east and west coasts, flown a jet over Texas, skied the Sierras and the Rockies, swam in the South China Sea, spent 6 months working inside a certain mountain in Colorado, operated a food truck for several years, and done many other things, most of which he survived with only minor injuries. Occasionally, he writes.
His stories normally focus on how emergent technologies change social expectations and interactions in the near future. He should write more stories, but he’s also busy with a full time job (still!) while renovating his house, destroying his backyard (so he can save it), and writing and performing filk music in his copious spare time. That last bit was sarcasm, DYK.
He lives in Provo, Utah, with his wife of mumble-mumble (>39) years, one cat, and possibly the largest collection of Star Trek books in Utah.
