Warwick Goble (1862–1943) was born November 22, 1862 in Dalston, England. He was a prolific illustrator for The Strand Magazine, Pearson’s Magazine, and The Boy’s Own Paper beginning in the 1890s. After entering the business of book illustration in 1896, he was the first illustrator of The War of the Worlds (1898) by H. G. Wells.
He went on to illustrate many books, including a well-received 1909 edition of The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley and many different fairytale collections. On January 22, 1943, he died at his home in Surrey, England.
