Orson F. Whitney

Orson Ferguson Whitney was born in Salt Lake City, Utah Territory in 1855. A noted writer of poetry, essays, and history, Whitney is most remembered for his encouragement of Mormon literature, having famously said, “We will yet have Miltons and Shakespeares of our own.” He was also a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1906 until his death in 1931.
